New Crisis Stabilization Unit: Paradise Valley Hospital has partnered with San Diego County to open a new crisis stabilization unit (CSU) on the hospital’s Bayview campus in Chula Vista. This specialized department — the first and only unit of its kind in the South Bay, and the second CSU in San Diego County — will provide hospital-based emergency behavioral health services to county residents ages 18 and older. Community Health Needs Assessment: HASD&IC has brought the collaborative 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment process internal to our association and is seeking broader participation from our members as we re-envision our hospital discharge data analysis and approach to community engagement. HASD&IC looks forward to providing more updates about its partnerships with community organizations to get real-time feedback on the health and social challenges of communities facing inequities.
City of San Diego and Emergency Medical Services: On April 13, the San Diego City Council will consider the Independent Budget Analyst’s (IBA) report on Falck USA’s bid response to the Request for Proposal (RFP) for Emergency Ambulance Service, 9‐1‐1‐ Response, Advanced Life Support and Standby Service. HASD&IC has shared members’ concerns with the mayor’s office and city councilmembers. Now, we must wait to see what makes it into the IBA’s report on revenue projections, labor issues, and the potential cost to re-bid the RFP.
New County Department Focused on Addressing Homelessness: Yesterday, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors considered Chair Nathan Fletcher’s proposal for a new Department of Homeless Solutions and Equitable Communities. If approved, this department would fall under the Health and Human Services Agency and would centralize the county’s homeless resources to improve collaboration with external partners and streamline the location of emergency and permanent supportive housing.
CHA Launches Redesigned Website: For those who haven’t seen it yet, the California Hospital Association has modernized and redesigned its websitefor desktop and mobile. Designed to help members find the information they need quicker and easier, the new site reorganizes the materials CHA provides, sorting them by the topics that matter most to members. Content can be filtered not just by issue area, but also by type of resource: infographics, key messages, news articles, and more.
