About Volunteers

Volunteers give selflessly of themselves and are vital to California’s hospitals. They staff the gift shops, answer phones, work hand in hand with staff, and more in order to help hospitals run smoothly. The California Hospital Volunteer Leadership Network, previously recognized as the Committee on Volunteer Services and Directors’ Coordinating Council, is essential in linking hospital volunteer leaders, hospital administrations, and other hospital community representatives throughout the state. The network members plan and recommend policies and standards for volunteer activities in hospitals and health systems throughout the state.

Volunteers Are the Heartbeat of the Hospital

Hospitals are only able to provide essential care to patients because many dedicated people come together every day to help those in need. No one exemplifies this dedication more than California’s hospital volunteers. Next week, April 21-27, is National Volunteer Week, and it is a time for us to reflect on the selflessness, kindness, and generosity that can sometimes go unseen and unrecognized. It’s also a time to say thank you.

A Week Dedicated to Recognizing Our Volunteers

Often, when people think about the work done at hospitals, it’s the doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff who come to mind. While their work is vitally important — often lifesaving — volunteers and volunteer leaders are also an integral part of the hospital environment.
